Massage Therapy

In Calgary.

My name is Yuriy Zhivov, RMT and I began my career as a massage therapist with a professional soccer team in 2003 in Israel. I helped to prepare players before games, particularly performing sports massages, and then afterward with injury-related therapies that included taping, bracing and rehabilitation. In 2006 I continued my professional career working with clients from all backgrounds and issues including disabled military veterans.

While fully employed I always pursued continuous improvement through education and certification. Notably with the Wingate Institute of Exercise Sciences & Sport where I obtained my Sports Therapist Diploma in 2009. I specialize in deep tissue and rehabilitative/sports therapy, joint mobilization (spine, shoulder and knee injuries), dynamic and static stretching, postural dysfunction, lymphatic drainage, arthritis, sciatica, degenerative disc disease.

I find that with lymphatic drainage, though one of the most gentle of massage therapies, the results are amazing. I also practice reflexology.

Recently I have also taken a course with BTL enabling me to offer shockwave therapy which is especially effective for chronic pain and impingement issues.

I have extensive experience treating sprains and strains, muscle tightness and spasms, neck ache pain and headaches, tennis and golfer’s elbow and other general relaxation treatments. My goals are to help the client maintain health, preserve or increase functional capacity, help the client heal from injury, help the client cope with stress, provide a caring consultation with the client, provide treatment that is professionally appropriate for the client, to listen to the client, and provide the best therapy possible

SERVICES
Swedish Massage
Deep Tissue massage

Swedish massage therapy is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage.

As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body.

This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart.

But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries.

It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues.

This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduces tension in muscle and tissue.

It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Sports Massage

Sports Massage was developed to help with muscle systems used for a particular sport, sports massage uses a variety of approaches to help athletes in training before, during, or after sports events.

You might use it to promote flexibility and help prevent injuries. Or, it may help muscle strains, aiding healing after a sports injury.

Lymphatic drainage massage or treatment uses gentle, repetitive strokes to facilitate the lymphatic system.

It is a specialized massaged that is sometimes referred to as a ‘detox massage’, supporting your body’s internal filtration system to help keep your immune system in check.

Cupping Massage
Hot Stone Massage

Cupping is a massage modality that finds its roots in traditional Chinese medicine.

The practice uses glass cups to create a vacuum seal on areas of the body. The suction created by this seal brings blood to the surface of the skin and is thought to help expel negative energies from the body.

The therapist places warmed stones on certain areas of the body, such as acupressure points. The stones may be used as massage tools or be temporarily left in place.

Along with other massage techniques, hot stones can be quite soothing and relaxing as they transmit heat deep into the body.

Reflexology
Orthopedic Massage

Reflexology is a type of massage that involves applying different amounts of pressure to the feet, hands, and ears.

It’s based on a theory that these body parts are connected to certain organs and body systems

Orthopedic Massage is a structured approach to relieving pain and movement limitations.

This therapeutic work is guided by an assessment of the client’s ability to move, as well as how and when pain is experienced. Although it affects the deep tissues of the body, it is delivered as a pain-free massage.

Chair Massage

The term "Chair Massage" describes the type of massage that is performed while the client sits fully clothed in a special chair.

This unique massage chair is ergonomically designed and offers full support of the head (face forward), arms, torso, and legs.

We use a combination of deep tissue and Swedish massage techniques, usually on the muscle groups in the neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands.

Thai Foot Massage

Thai foot massage is the application of pressure onto particular areas of the soles of the feet.

A reflex action in another part of the body is stimulated by the manipulation of each specific area.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a multidisciplinary device used in orthopedics, physiotherapy, sports medicine, and urology. Its main assets are fast pain relief and mobility restoration. Together with being a non-surgical therapy with no need for painkillers makes it an ideal therapy to speed up recovery and cure various indications causing acute or chronic pain.

Most patients with chronic pain problems have been through various unsuccessful types of treatments. Up to 80% of the same patients worldwide report that Shockwave therapy has helped them eliminate their problem.

Acoustic Wave Anti-Cellulite Treatment

The Anti-Cellulite package consists of three treatments in one session.

First we introduce Acoustic waves to the body which are strong, non-focused pulses of sound which generate vibrations. When acoustic waves are directed at problematic areas of the skin or tissue, they produce a wide range of positive physiological responses within the body. These changes can lead to improved smoothness, texture, elasticity, and tightening of the skin.

We then use Cupping which invigorates local circulation of blood in the area being treated, resolving swelling, pain, and tension. By drawing impurities to the surface, it removes toxins.

Lastly, we perform a Lymphatic drainage treatment which accelerates the absorption and transportation of lymphatic fluids which contain toxins.

This is a proprietary process only found at Kinesio.
